Duties

Management of Axxis Plant 

Working Conditions:

  • The position requires full time presence during office hours at the Losberg facility. It might also require overtime from time to time depending on specific improvement projects or operational aspects that require urgent attention.
  • Assembly plants operate on shifts with assembly supervisors on duty. Up to three team leaders can report directly to the incumbent.  
  • The operations are characterized by high volume automated assembly rates with a key focus on assembly safety, quality and productivity. The timeous availability of raw materials and finished goods to the required quality standards is critical to the success of this key BME business.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Coordinate and manage plant operations for assembly, maintenance, quality, safety and shipping and receiving of materials. Essential functions include:

  • Plant productivity
  • Material productivity, including first pass efficiency and waste management
  • People productivity, including training, development and resource management
  • Cost management – Ensure cost efficiency of every operation by actively managing daily costs, overtime, wastage, and efficiency
  • Adherence to sound SHEQ principles including ensuring compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, The Explosives Act and regulations and other Regulatory requirements
  • Ensure maintenance and continual improvement of the management systems based on ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and international safety standards, which include Process Safety Management
  • Work closely with quality personnel to review product consistency while monitoring scrap rates to determine trends and areas for improvement
  • Monitor production expenses and research ways to reduce costs while maintaining safety and quality standards
  • Maintain and support a superior safety and housekeeping program, including all timely communication requirements
  • Control, track and review performance against objectives, KPI’s, production and safety targets and lead improvement actions in order to ensure optimal performance
  • Ensure key roles are staffed with competent and appropriately trained personnel
  • Effectively manage manpower requirements, production planning, stock management, instrumentation calibration, plant maintenance, plant modifications and safety controls, e.g. detonator handling safety.
  • Maintain existing plant facilities and equipment in a good state of repair with Adherence to the prescribed quality assurance framework
  • Timeous reporting, investigation and follow up of all safety and quality deviations
  • Timeouts and accurate review and follow up of both manual and system generated production and engineering reports, followed by timeouts corrective actions.

Production & Plant Maintenance

  • Report to Plant Manager.
  • Manage a team of Automation assistants and an Automated Assembly Operators.
  • Responsible for repairs and maintains the computer controlled systems and robotic devices used within the automated assembly and manufacturing facilities of BME. These duties require knowledge of electronics, mechanics and computers.
  • Ensures assembly line and production team meet safety, operational and quality requirements.
  • This requires also supervising a production team as all as be responsible for maintenance and optimization of a number of machines within the Losberg manufacturing complex.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • To ensure compliant, accurate and timely completion of corrective, emergency, and preventive maintenance on automation systems and equipment.
  • To stand in for assembly automated operator when required.
  • To manage and train a production team, including operators and assistants.
  • Execute predictive and preventive maintenance on automation equipment and systems including but not limited to Siemens, Allen Bradley PLC/DCS control systems hardware and software, HMI using GP Pro, Operating systems, server, KUKA Robotics, Festo Pneumatics, Programming using RS Logix 5000 and instruments.
  • Ensure machines operate at optimal efficiency
  • Ensure all products produced and material used meets minimum quality standards and specification
  • Manage shift performance in terms of key performance areas
  • Troubleshoot deviations and determine if the problem is mechanical, electrical or computer systems controlling the process. Once the issue has been diagnosed ,the technician is required to repair or replace any necessary components
  • Ensure the plant is started and shut down safely and correctly, following correct start-up and shutdown procedures
  • Training and teaching others- ensure Assembly Assistants and Operators.
  • Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Act as well as the Explosive Act and Regulation
  • Key elements that supports productivity and ensure that these elements are applied in the plant i.e. budget and cost

To provide production with electronics and instrumentation support, (packaging and making machines). do mainly first line, preventative and corrective maintenance.
Also do medium projects, and get involved in projects that are in my section.

Duties

Was responsible for diagnosing the fault and make sure it gets sorted out.
This was ideal  because  was still new in the FMCG field hence this responsibility was a great career step up. And also doing Standby.

Duties

To provide a support to pilot, and do fight survey, management and maintenance of  FAS Das systems electrical instrumentation and small/medium projects all over Africa.
