A concentrated solar power thermal energy power plant:Schedule Manager From 2017-09 To 2018-09

Kathu Solar Park is a 100MW construction project involving parabolic trough and molten salt technology.
It is a concentrated solar plant (CSP).
Reporting to the project director my role as the schedule manager encompassed the following:



  • Management of the EPC planning behaviours.
  • Evaluate the integrity of the contractors (EPC) project programme.
  • Investigate for flaws in the accuracy of the programme.
  • Assess and escalate changes to the baseline programme.
  • Co-ordinate scheduling best practices.
  • Provide an overarching programme co-ordination to the owner’s engineers.
  • Actively use Primavera.


Project Management:

  • Assess the EPC’s reported progress.
  • Maintain the risk register.
  • Maintain the issues register.
  • Maintain the decisions register.
  • Maintain the delays register.
  • Evaluate variation / change orders.
  • Provide input to the project execution plan (PMP).
  • Develop and maintain project monitoring and reporting tools.


Contract and dispute management:

  • Analyse and evaluate extensions of time.
  • Conduct forensic delay analysis.
  • Assess and report findings on claims.
  • Compile formal notices and other communications intended for the EPC.
  • Participate in resolving contract related disputes and issues.
  • Prepare documentation for claims adjudication / arbitration.



  • Interact with EPC management.
  • Provide input to shareholder reports.
  • Interact with Owners management team and Shareholders representatives. 

Operates in the business areas of metal mechanics, thermoplastic compounds, civil construction, real estate, and the management of energy:Consultant - PMO Manager From 2016-03 To 2016-09
  • Reporting to the CEO was to implement modern project management practices. During this contract role I fulfilled the following objectives:
  • Developed a project classification and project management frameworks in line with PRINCE2 and PMI professional standards.
  • Developed and implemented the PM methodology for enterprise cost and risk management.
  • Developed and institutionalised the policy and culture for effective claims management.
  • Developed the means for project planning.
  • Developed and Institutionalised a project management orientation and organisational culture.
  • Designed and documented the project management methodologies , tools, and templates.
  • Implemented a Project Management Information System that caters for the full lifecycle of projects.
  • Implemented earned value management (EVM) as the primary reporting means.
  • Developed and installed portfolio analysis and evaluation for future management decision making

Develops, manufactures, supplies, and exports waste-to-energy plants :Programme Manager From 2015-02 To 2016-02
  • As the programme manager on an EPC power plant construction included managing the planning and control over the consortium partnership.
  • Lead the Project Controls team, with planning, costs control and project control functions, including presentation at meetings, maintenance of the Earned Value management plans with periodic cost models, monthly cost forecasts, managing risk, planning and change control and integration of sub-contractor schedules and partnership programmes.
  • Designed, built and implemented the models and processes for managing the EPC project including identification, quantification, analysis and reporting of activities.
  • Was second in command to the project director and supported all project activities in his absence.
  • Regularly interfaced with the investors and owners engineers. 
  • Was responsible for compiling and presenting the monthly reports to the investors.

A wholly owned subsidiary​​​​ of Eskom Enterprises:Project Planning and Control Manager From 2010-09 To 2014-06
  • As the head of department, the department was responsible for project pipelining and project management of capital and MRO projects for power transmission and electricity distribution networks. 
  • Comprising 57 members, the department included functional specialists in project management, tendering and estimation, project planning and control, procurement and logistics, and data management. 
  • This role required strong leadership in resource management and project governance, customer and contractor relations management, and sound commercial acumen

  • As the head of department, the department was responsible for project management, planning, procurement, and management of materials and logistics. 
  • Steinmuller Deutschland was awarded a contract to manufacture 12 coal fired boilers for two new power stations therefore requiring the installation of a brown field manufacturing facility in South Africa. 
  • The department comprised of manufacturing engineers, project managers, project planners, project schedulers and project controllers. 
  • Other responsibility areas included materials management, and project information systems management. Additional attributes of this leadership role were, performance management, resource coaching and development, contract management and dispute resolution, risk management and project governance.

  • As the head of department, the department supported the delivery of 9 concurrent aerospace programs. 
  • These included product development projects and manufacturing projects. 
  • The department comprised of 44 staff including master project schedulers, procurement and project controllers. 
  • Interfaces were operations management, business development, and the management committee. 
  • Attributes of this leadership role were project portfolio management, governance, process improvement and the development of project management frameworks. 
  • The primary role of the department was to translate agreed business and operational strategies into executable project plans and control the adherence thereto.

Develops manufactures, and maintains aero-engines and aero-engine propulsion systems for civil aircraft :War-Room Manager From 2005-10 To 2007-11

As the war-room manager (PMO), reporting to the programme executive, my role was to manage the programme office. This was the TP400 aero engine product development programme.

  • Establish the programme management office.
  • Support the project management structure and development teams. 
  • Support the development of the project lifecycle method.
